Subtitles are Captions displayed at the bottom of a cinema or television screen that translate or transcribe the dialogue or narrative.
Technically Subtitles come in 2 forms - Open Captions and Closed Captions.
- Open Captions are "burnt in" to the video - and therefore cannot be switched on/off
- Closed Captions are encoded as part of the file and allow viewers to switch them on/off
